The sun drenched world of Tenerife with its idyllic beaches, secluded coves and wide range of water sports offers visitors the perfect setting in which to enjoy a laidback holiday by the seaside. The type of shoreline on this volcanic island varies from area to area and those exploring the coast will find a variety of beaches that consist of typical yellow sand, black lava sand or even pebbles.
Due to the varied nature of the beaches in Tenerife, visitors will be able to find one that suits their needs. While some offer great opportunities for such water sports as surfing, others are more family friendly and have soft sands and shallow waters for kids. Of course those who prefer to spend their days at the seaside “el naturale” have several nudist beaches to choose from as well!
Since the island’s coastline is such a huge draw to tourists, finding accommodation at a hotel or apartment in Tenerife near these areas is relatively easy. Here are a few of the different beaches that can be visited depending on which part of the island one is heading to.
The beaches of South Tenerife attract both tourists and locals and are ideal for those looking for family friendly shores that can be enjoyed by young and old alike. Playa las Americas is just one such beach which has shallow waters for children, water sports for outdoor enthusiasts and plenty of sun beds for visitors looking to work on that perfect holiday tan. The Octopus Aquapark can also be found here and is a great place to take the kids. Other popular South Tenerife beaches include Playas de Troya, the yellow sand beach of Los Cristianos and the Conquistador beach which is a local favourite for surfers.
Those staying at Tenerife hotels and apartments in the North side of the island also have plenty of beaches to explore. Playa Jardin incorporates landscaped gardens and is one of the most picturesque stretches of shoreline on the island while the El Socorro black sand beach and Playa del Roque offer great waves for surfing. Visitors wanting the typical golden sand beach experience can head to Las Teresitas which has sand that has been brought over from the Sahara!
West Tenerife is home to Playa San Juan where one can spend the day soaking up the sun. This black sand and pebbled beach offers a respite from the crowds and is a good spot for snorkelling as well. The resort of Playa de la Arena and its beach provides sunbathers with a laidback cove setting in which to take in quiet sunsets. Those looking to ride the waves can make their way to the K16 beach which offers surfing opportunities.
The Eastern side of Tenerife is where one will find the Roque Bermejo beach which is ideal for those looking to enjoy the relaxed coastal atmosphere in relative seclusion. The Candaleria beach is a great site for some swimming, while visitors in search of a nudist beach can head to the Montana Roja end of Playa de la Tejita. Water sport enthusiasts looking to get in some windsurfing when on holiday can visit the El Medano beach which is a good area for kite-boarding as well.
So when next searching for a Tenerife apartment or hotel, remember to find one that is closest to the beach that caters to ones needs be it for the family, for some good old fashioned sunbathing or for water sports.
